There is a stark difference between trust and unconditional trust.
Both trust and unconditional trust can be earned. However, unconditional trust can only be earned once.
While we may trust someone who has forsaken our trust in the past, we can only trust them to a certain degree.
Unconditional trust means that there is absolutely no doubt that we will not be duped. Once our trust has been broken once, we can never regain unconditional trust. If we know that the person was capable of breaking our trust in the past, that small amount of doubt will always remain.
